Falling Away from the Mystery of Godliness

This coming Lord’s Day (Sunday) morning (11.00 a.m.) we intend to look at the Holy Spirit’s sobering prediction that some in the church of the living God will fall away from the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We’ll consider what this looked like in the early church and how false teaching can damage the church today by not presenting Christ as central to everything. We’ll understand the great benefit of proclaiming the abundant goodness of God.

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer” {1 Timothy 4:1-5}
In the evening (5p.m.) we’ll see that the coming judgement of Christ at the end of this age is a great comfort to believers as we patiently endure injustice in this world.
“Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord” {Romans 12:19}
